This series was created during the covid-19 shelter-in-place. Aspired to maintain a positive mindset as to manage the pandemic restrictions and difficulties, I found myself craving deeper communications through reading and writing; poetry specifically that I found healing. Interested in translating the healing and joyful energy of poetry to visual language, I created this mixed media series that’s rhythmical, metaphorical, suggestive, and vibrant.
I focused on color psychology and incorporating materials and processes that feel immersive and meditative. Similar to how I layer translucent inks during the printmaking process, I later cut and hand-sewed translucent-color vinyl films onto paper using embroidery floss. The process of using needle and thread requires me to slow down and be delicate. It teaches and reminds me not to rush and be immersed at the moment.
(This is a set of four pieces from the series. Each piece is 25.5x25.5cm. The estimated framed size for the set is 65x65cm.)
