This is a set of four pieces. Each piece is 25.5x25.5x8cm.
“Form is emptiness and emptiness is form; the same is true for feelings, perceptions, volitions, and consciousness.” Inspired by the unique understanding of emptiness in Zen philosophy that emptiness represents a state of transparency and a way to experience without preconceptions, I infuse this idea into my creative process and curiously observe the constant change of light and shadow becoming a part of the work. Grids often create a structure that carries a sense of formality, but the soft-grid patterns used in this work rather blur the boundaries and play with spatial perceptions. They represent change, the constant being of becoming, fading yet forming.
In composing with translucent ink and acrylic (plexiglass) to create minimalist shapes and forms, I dwell on the connection and interplay between physical and non-physical existence while creating a sense of spatial wonder where light is filtered, cast, reflected, and reimagined.
