‚Unflawed’ is an original work that explains itself. Normally, when using gold leaf or
when gilding parts in my paintings, these parts will always mark the focus or highlight
in it. However, at one time of my artistic journey, I was asking myself, what would it
look like to simplify a work of art and at the same time make it look like perfection? For
me, the color gold, and explicitly executed via schlag leaf, always speaks of glory,
excellency, uniqueness and beauty. So, if there was no flaw, no mistake and nothing
that would water it down, it had to be purely gold. The round form, as it takes away the
edges we normally see in a quadrangle canvas, speaks even more of perfection,
conveying the message of eternity at the same time. The three and a half layers of gold
leaf add to its richness and shininess, not leaving a doubt of a seemingly unperfected
surface underneath. So, even if the work will loose a layer of gold or by accident is
scratched on one spot, it will still reveal that it is gold underneath as well. Those were
my thoughts on perfection. I am quite sure that the simplicity of the painting as well as
its title will leave the observer to look at it quite some time, unconsciously searching for
some flaw. Will he or she find some?
