Redrawing centuries of family patterns is at the heart of Borms oeuvre. In this work of art she revisits the good old family picture and portrait. We present our cleaned-up self proudly in a frame. The flaunting family portraits are perched on the mantelpiece but what do they conceal? When Borms found a collection of old pictures at a fleamarket in Paris she wondered who these people are? All looking so happy and elegantly dressed, hair and outfit on point. How did they really feel that day? How happy is this family off camera? A lot can be hidden and be happening behind closed doors. She gently removed the smiling faces from their antique frames and inserted colourful paper instead. The beautiful small brass frames carry the traces of lives lived and lost, secrets lost and found. Cast in strong plexiglass you are invited to build your own family now. These works of art serve as building blocks, a starting point if you like, to write your own family story. Choose the colors and shapes wisely and at your own terms. The transparant blocks leave no space for hidden violence. Real connection, comfort and warmness is what these families strive to achieve. Can you find yours?
