What is the impact of the COVID-19 on human behavior and the environment especially on the management of facemasks?
Nearly 3.4 billion masks are thrown away every day worldwide, marketed all over the world as a symbol of protection against the pandemic (covid19), the face mask is emblematic of the broken connection between humans and their environment but actually, little by little the world is unmasking, on our faces, yes! but in the wild it's a whole different story because used well, it saves lives, but thrown away badly, it destroys them.
When we were lock downed, nature had momentarily taken over and the population had begun to become aware of the impact of human activities on the environment, It was an unexpected break for land and sea animals who were able to enjoy without humans.
If waste management was a problem before the pandemic, we suspect that the explosion of single-use equipment hasn't improved things, in town, in the countryside or compound and after use, most face masks end up in the trash, sometimes people are throwing them away everywhere in the environment(nature), after a rain's passage or an impetuous winds, the latter almost inevitably ends in the ocean, rivers which represent a real danger for marine organisms, animals & the environment.
