The concept is inspired by Picasso's painting featuring a blue nude model.I was toying with the idea of painting a monotone piece and it was the eve of the 2019 new year that I suddenly got emotional and reflected on various issues of the world.Hence I wrote this poem and painted this artwork, continuing my obsession with the Eye subject.
Eye(I) am Sad
Fireworks dancing in the night skies.
People reveling, celebrating a brand new year.
But here I am holding my palette knives
Drowned in noises of people cheering in wonder
At the beauty of the colours they see.
But is my eye seeing a different reality?
A different time zone? A different world?
I shed tears for those who attain their worldly goals
In ways so violent, unscrupulous and unethical
They lose their way and drown in unconscious battles.
Should I be lamenting in silence and let things go by?
Feeling helpless while I clearly see their strife?
Will the new 2019 be any better if I just sit and sigh?
Or should I be bolder and make that eagle’s cry
In helping to restore the world’s order?
Or is it suffice that just sit in tears and say a prayer?
Coming form a background of filming, I had wanted to frame the eye in such a way that dramatizes the intensity of the emotion, juxtaposed by a rather sedate lady(representing me) in a dilemma with her mixed feelings of courage and on the hand feeling of helplessness. I asked myself, what can a small dot of a human like me do for some of the world's disorders?
