At a time when the world is developing rapidly with the power of
science and technology and economy, the relationship between people, people and
the world, nations and countries has just come to a critical juncture. People
pay attention to interests, but ignore the foundation of survival and the
importance of symbiosis and win-win. While longing for eternal existence and
strength, they are on the opposite path.
Chinese traditional
culture has a very essential view of individual desires and the harmonious
coexistence between people and the world. Both Confucianism and Taoism
ultimately advocate the realization of spiritual spontaneous realm, which makes
people harmonious with themselves, with others, and with nature. The ultimate
goal is not to change the world, but to shape nature. My work is based on the
Chinese traditional "five elements", using the wood of nature -
"Populus euphratica", through the method of analogy and deduction,
with its growth and survival characteristics, the majestic change of natural
charm, to describe its connotation and spirit. Wood has the meaning of life and
extension in the five elements. Since ancient times, Chinese people have unique
views on the causal cycle of life and death. Among the five elements, only wood
has life. It has the process of growth, decay and even old death. However, for
Populus euphratica, death does not mean disappearance. Aging is not equivalent
to decay. After life is exhausted, it condenses its essence into a solid body
and blooms into thousands of poses. The solidity and desolation of thousands of
years contain eternal life force. It symbolizes the value orientation that
human beings should have today, and it is a perfect interpretation of the
existence of human civilization - only conforming to nature, adapting to
development, living in harmony, fearing difficulties, seeking inward, and self
shaping are the most important qualities in the development of world
civilization today.
