Ecce Homo
I was
thinking about the concept of how I could write about this topic in relation to
my paintings, which were created a few decades ago and today. Very important
concepts for understanding my works are man in space and time (his traces, both
physical and spiritual), which are joined by the category of energy of both man
and nature. This concept includes both physical and mental and spiritual
energies of man, which intertwine with each other. I understand the energy of
nature and man more pantheistically. Of course, these terms also refer to the
existence of man in modern times. They are, in fact, philosophical,
psychological as well as physical concepts.
Recently, I
wanted to read Tagore’s wisdom again in his essays The Path to Perfection.
There he very clearly shows the difference between the Eastern and Western way
of thinking and acting of man. While Eastern man tries to live in harmony with
nature and can even feel it as a common consciousness, a common soul, Western
man tries to subjugate nature to his needs of consumer and capitalist society,
the desire for personal gain, where selfishness is expressed, but the
ecological consequences of this way of thinking are more than visible today.
Unfortunately, Western man mostly looks down on nature, as if he wants to show
and prove his superiority over nature, or at least the mastery of nature, but
this mentality is often cruelly retaliated by nature. Unfortunately, this
Western view of the world has also obsessed Eastern societies today.
