“Elektra”
is made with acrylic on paper and is visually inspired by the strong female character
in the movie “Elektra” from 2005 and content-wise by Greek mythology. The
background story is that she is the daughter of the famous Agamemnon and Clytemnestra
and saved his brothers life by sending him away when her father was murdered
coming back from the Trojan War by his own wife and her lover. As in Greek mythology, drama and at that time
especially blood revenge is essential, the brother later returns. Elektra helps
him to murder their mother and their mother’s lover. I chose the red background
because it is the color of blood and emotion that fits to the story. In the
center I depict a modern “Elektra” who does not look well-behaved, but rather
wild and provoking. She is powerful, without fear and self-conscious which can
be seen by her figure-accentuating, latex-like outfit.
