Poem as part of the message of the artwork:
Dreams as Gifts
Dreams are boxes
of gifts waiting to be unwrapped
Dreams are candles
of hope waiting to be lit
Dreams are mountains
waiting to be conquered
Dreams are nightmares
waiting to be sweetened
Dreams are knives
waiting to be sharpened
Dreams are wars
waiting to be fought
Dreams are cherries
waiting to blossom
Dreams are empty canvases
if you do not paint them into life
- Dreams are waiting
to be birthed but are you willing to push through
labours of tears, sweat, agony and blood?
Dreams are not yours to keep,
they are gifts to the world,
waiting to be born
*Note: This is a six minute painting as part of a live poetry and painting performance featured in a musical concert titled 'The Gift', performed in December 2019.
The lady represents us carrying the baby which is symbolic of our dreams, painted like a flower as we are waiting for our dreams to blossom.
Black signifies the seriousness of our dreams. Red is the bloodshed and sacrifices we endure while blue is the hope we have while waiting to achieve our dream. The tints of green and yellow are bright glimpses of joy that tells us not to give up.
