The collection of artworks „Quarantinarium“ (+sterile)"
Technique. Prints of used masks and gloves (monotype, object print), collage of these objects. Creative disinfection and recycling of masks and gloves.
Inspiration. First days of pandemic - the lack of masks, gloves and disinfectant fluid, the panic trying getting them and comic price constantly rising. Permanent hand disinfection caused even pain. A constant question - whether or not to infect. Advantages of masks when you don't feel bad smells and don't need makeup. First day after quarantine, how all strangers in town feel happy seeing noses and lips again.
Concept. These
paintings are created during the corona virus quarantine. Inspired by
pandemic, they give commentary on the unexpected new reality. I analyze myself (and other people) losing myself in this panic sometimes in an absurd way. I try to find the optimistic and sometimes comic approach in this. A heart-shaped composition of facemasks invites “to come to love the present moment, to accept the current situation”. I wish people to find themselves better, more creative, more tolerant.
The
collage compositions (object prints, monotype) are minimalist, but
eloquent. The works in the series speak in several registers at the same
time. The visuals are accessible and decodable, but a closer look
reveals meticulously selected shapes, thoroughly-researched line
trajectories. Every piece can be readily verbalised, working as a pun,
but not mere illustration.
Bright blue is my personal signature. This
time, a similar effect is achieved without cyanotype. I used etching
ink in printing masks and other objects. Each print is unique and
unreproducible, filled with fresh unexpectedness.
Models, reminiscent
of ancient statuary, speak to the age-old regularity of calamities –
and underline the importance of keeping civility, humanity and good sense. I
really approach the current inconveniences with much empathy, but my
message is to stay hopeful.
