I've been reflecting a lot about visions and dreams. I've been thinking a lot about how much my Christian background and knowledge of South African Spirituality influence my interpretation of dreams. In this painting, the snake just swallowed a white dove and has one of its bloodied feathers sticking out of its mouth. It has a black dove sitting on its head. In this work, I’m interested in the idea of good and evil and the stereotypical representations and interpretations of those representations. I saw this vision in a waking dream. In the dream, the snake was not threatening; strangely, it felt like it was revealing the truth and being an agent of transformation. And while death is a factor in this event, it didn't necessarily register as a negative result. Could this symbolize a good transformation? Can death be good sometimes? Are some endings necessary?
