Painting may be an illusion, but as an artistic language, even pushed
beyond its limits, it cannot help but assert itself. Painting can aspire to
replace reality, but in the impossibility of succeeding in this aim, it reveals
its true nature. Therefore the aim is to represent reality in such a way as to
surprise and deceive the observer about the physical consistency of the thing
represented. The tears, a stylistic detail that denotes my production of the
last decade, reveal what is actually underneath the canvas, thus proposing a
reflection on the nature of illusionistic representation. The inspiration comes
from some works by Magritte and the work of the german artist Kosuth (One and
Three Chairs) which propose a meditation on language and tautology.
