This picture belongs
to my cycle MUSIC is devoted to visual interpretation of well-known classical
musical compositions in the language of
contemporary painting.
The vocal cycle
"Pierrot Lunair" by Arnold Schoenberg is one of his atonal works,
where the vocal part is written in the manner of Sprechgesang (half-half,
half-recitation). The cycle is based on the poems of the Belgian poet Albert
Giraud. It contains three parts, while each part includes seven vocal pieces..
The picture is based on the second part of the work which
deals with the theme of suffering and
martyrdom (Pierrot rips his heart out of his chest and puts it on the altar).
The general black
background provides an atmosphere of tragedy and martyrdom. The picture is
divided into seven segments by a broken line of rupture, reminiscent of sad
experiences and emotional distress. Pierrot turns his gaze to the moon, as if
in a silent prayer. His heart, linked by an unbreakable thread with the moon,
hangs like a dead pendulum.
