Reworking tribal masks has been part of my art practice since the beginning, am inspired and intrigued by this ritual prop tradition. To me it all comes down to the power of the mind, if you believe it is beneficial for you, the power and purpose of the ritual is the ritual itself. In that sense a mask from any cultural background can have value in any other setting, it is the magic we assign to it. Driven and fascinated towards cosmic duality, multidimensional holographic symbols, I rework sacred masks, with respect and devotion, a translation to modern magic.
The top part of this mask resembles the hull of a boat, due to this my perception of meaning assigned to it, is about a passage from one realm to another. The eyes are barely open, adjusting to the light, transforming through contrast. A protective guide to safeguard cosmic travelers through their transit towards the light.
