This
piece focuses on perceptions. The cordial glasses in life are minute, but
through interpretation I redefine them as sentries or guards, standing between
time and life, eternity and oblivion, with competing reflections accentuating an
immensity. People often make quick judgments from what they first see and then
close off authenticallyseeing the other—i.e., the 78-year-old woman is
to be passed over as the little old lady. It’s a response to those
classifications that diminish. Also, cordials signify a joy, a quick sip of a
liquored spirit and its done. The piece is a tempus fugit, life is a
fire quickly burning out. The divine is there but there is a terror or awe to
it, that again, contrasts the sense of a light-hearted “cordial”.
