This is a double-sided work. This side shows, Coral, 2021 was made during COVID 19. It’s meant to be calming and thought provoking, drawing the viewer into deeper contemplation. The title Coral 2021, is a reference to coral reefs around the world, the impact of climate change and the heroic innovative efforts of modern technology in their preservation. It’s a multi-layered work with multiple meanings giving a dream-like quality for the viewer to draw their own interpretation and conclusions. It's a work made during self-reflection for self-reflection.
It's a mixed media piece with layered acrylic paints, glazes and gesso, painting on a single piece of Perspex giving the work a translucent quality. It has a sense of movement with wave-like colour motion, it’s soft and feminine yet heavy, rigid and bold. The final texture is similar to a lizard which is realised by painting dots, as a nod to pointillism and aboriginal painting techniques. It’s a multi-layered work with multiple meanings giving a dream-like quality for the viewer to draw their own interpretation and conclusions.
On the reverse is another work called Silver Linings; its colour palette and tones are cloud base, inspired by the white translucency of clouds with petal-like layer strokes painted in clusters of feather-like sweeping patterns. The idea of the double work is "sea and air". Depending on mood one can display one image or another if hung, or if placed on a plinth it's a doubled sided work.
