This piece is about comments and labeling and how they affect one’s emotional state. The raw untreated canvas surface is unforgiving and absorbs every pigment laid down upon it. This materiality is meant to function as metaphor for vulnerability. Densely textured hands are sculpted with paint to create more three dimensional presence. The black hands are intruding into the raw canvas area which is meant to represent the abrupt introduction of external forces such as societal expectations, comments, and labeling about an individual.
