Comfort helps us overcome those pains that life sometimes instills in our
hearts... naked like our bodies and pure like our souls. He who comforts in
turn is comforted.
"Passaro's canvas seems to be a tribute to mannerist aesthetics
despite its contemporary rendering. The bodies, which evoke, for example,
Pontormo's deformities, indulge in bold twists and intense expressions that
have a lot to do with the symbolist dimension. We find ourselves in front of
two naked men - that is, authentic, tending towards intimate truth - and with a
muscular build. The man from behind, on which the ape-like creature clings
which recalls the animal below, seems to caress, by way of comfort - if we want
to follow the suggestion of the title - the face of the other, visibly sad: it
is the support of conscience in the dominion of passions, which alter one's
harmony. (Angelo Crespi)"
