As with my other artworks, "Coffee on the lips" seeks to move away from figurative painting by searching for essentiality in shape and color. Painting with palette knives and wooden sticks is as ancient as the gesture that traces the "umber" color from top to bottom, as if the canvas had caught the color that was already flowing out of it. With plump lips and a white background obtained through the use of chalk, the portrait represents a landscape that is universal, real, alien, and in constant motion.
