Children Of GoldÂ
Children Of Gold is a realistic portrait based on the photo “Weight In Gold†by Sedric Acevedo. It shows two of opposite genders serenely leaning their heads against each other, while the person on the left has her eyes comfortably closed and the person on the right calmly gazes off into the distance, resting his chin on the female’s forehead.
The Portrait was painted with oil colour by the brands Winsor&Newton and Old Holland, with light blue acrylics serving as a base. On the finished result, thin golden flakes were applied for an eccentric look.Â
The idea behind this project was to showcase an admirable peace between two people of colour, standing serenely as in the calm after a storm, almost in a holy manner, highlighted by the heavenly blue and clear gold. I think it’s important to romanticize darker skin just as much as light skin has been romanticized in the last centuries, representing people of colour in art, showing they’re not only an important part of our world, but a truly beautiful one as well, a community that should be celebrated and appreciated.
