The inequality between the sexes is an injustice that has always effected and influenced Laura in a strong way. As for this painting: 

Girls, women, have a problem. In spite of feministic efforts and woman emancipation, the way to get attention still is by showing physical beauty. Also the women that seek attention and approval to be able to make a statement in whatever other aspect of life, be it politics, science, arts, sports, will in first instance be judged by their candy - value. Now if  women want to make a statement about this same fact, for instance by presenting themselves without the typical beauty standards, or by painting women that do not meet the criteria, they will be neglected by the masses and their statement will get lost.
