Candlemas.
Presentation of the Lord.
The
painting from the series “Twelve Great Feasts”. The Gospel event is not
represented by a “plot” that is distant in time, but a semantic field of this
feast. The meeting of the “old world “
and “the new one”, takes place through spatial anfilades, I call them spatial
grids, movement develops in all directions simultaneously, cruciform, like
polyphony in music. The cross-cutting perspective of the painting repeats the
rhythm of the Gospel texts, from God to
a man , from the Earth to God, from joy to suffering , from suffering to Resurrection.
Everything rapidly penetrates, and just as instantly departs, like light and
color, like the spirit and air.
