In Katya’s series of paintings, she explores the concept of luxurious
interiors devoid of human presence, inviting viewers to contemplate the
complex relationship between home, status, and societal values.
In today's information-saturated world, we are inundated with images of
extravagant houses and lavish lifestyles, often portrayed as symbols of
success and social status. These images tantalize us with the promise of a
life of luxury, yet they remain unattainable for many, relegated to the realm
of aspiration rather than reality.
In a society where economic and political barriers hinder many from
achieving homeownership, the concept of home becomes increasingly
elusive. What defines a place as "home"? Is it the number of nights spent
within its walls, or the happiness it brings?
The white fabric draped over the walls serves as a metaphor for the
temporary concealment of wealth and privilege, akin to the coverings used
to protect furniture during prolonged absences. Beneath this veil, the
interiors are depicted in a state of decay and disarray, hinting at the fragility
and impermanence of material possessions.
Katya invites viewers to confront the fragility of their own aspirations and
the emptiness that often accompanies the relentless pursuit of status.
