Research and fascination towards the symbolic meaning of red lines continued throughout history with a focus on family ties and mythologies and believes tied to the red thread, part of Chinese, Norse and Greek mythology as well as Judaism and Buddhism. Throughout these tales and myths the red thread symbolizes a powerful and positive connection.
In 2012 both paintings originated at a live art battle performance with my brother in which we
continuously switched between works. Abstaining from communication spurred disruption and reorder to reinforce the elements preferred. Upon my return to Belgium in 2019 it felt obligatory to revisited my personal connections and family ties. I reworked the paintings: the stage blood used had failed to dry, crying to be scraped off. After removal, I treated the painting blindfolded with aerosol and rollers reintroducing spontaneity. This enabled the final phase, characterized by meticulously articulating blood lines.
