This piece tells the story of the cascading effect of life. I feel the first thing the viewer will see is the red and orange splattered in the middle of the painting due to the obvious contrast in colour. This palette of colour represents the volcanic lava lying stagnant beneath the earth’s surface and deep blue sea. The viewer can also see that the sea contrasts with the lava. Here, you can see subtle aquatic life swimming to showcase tranquility within the sea’s depths. While the viewer’s eyes work their way up the painting, they can see a transition within from dark to light with a subtle connotation of differing landscapes. At first the viewer would believe it just a transition from dark up to light but when the viewers stare at the piece, I hope they can see the differing colours as symbols; with the dark blue as the sea which replenishes the green trees and dense flora and the top being the sky and a mountain in the middle which can be then traced back into the deep waters with the volcanic lava brewing beneath it. Therefore, by looking at the painting, I hope the viewers see this as a relatively tranquil piece but notice that the red lava is brewing, meaning things can change at any moment from pure serenity to deep chaos. Thus, I hope the viewers can relate to their own lives by understanding that life can change at any moment.
