The
bathroom is an environment conducive to intimate questioning and to the way one
looks at oneself, one’s body and one’s image, and that is why I wanted to make
it the subject of a series.
The
depiction of the invisible is more important to me than that of the visible
reality.
The mirror,
whose contours are highlighted by the presence of the luminous tube, no longer
becomes the mere reflection of one's body shape as it appears, but the
representation of what one aspires to, of one's most buried thoughts or of this
unconscious "I", becoming or repressed…
In this
first painting of the series Behind the Obvious, this is the couple I wanted to
stage in its simplest nudity. Who is who? and who sees what? The scenarios are
infinite, the idea being to bring the viewer’s gaze towards his own intimacy to
create a real closeness with his inner being…
