This painting was painted directly on linen with plaster. I want to use a rugged surface to create a embossed texture. Beasts, naked men, needle-like leaves, empty earth... Humans have lived for a long time in the state of bare life, until today. Agamben opines that the power of law to actively separate "political" beings (citizens) from "bare life" (bodies) has carried on from Antiquity to Modernity — from, literally, Aristotle to Auschwitz. Bare life, that is our true state.
