Autumn is part of a series of four paintings dedicated to the four seasons.
Resonating the impressionist perception of light and the immediateness of painting the ever-changing perceptions of Nature, its own changes and consistencies, its energy and relentlessness. I explore the essence of the colours and the dynamics of the profound link of the observer and its subject, intrinsic values of the natural elements that touch me very deeply.
By the end of the 16th century, Annibale Carracci was applying thick layers of colour to his canvases. An innovation at the time, this then-non-conventional technique would become one of the stylistic signatures of others, such as Vincent Van Gogh, for example. I believe texture can be as expressive as colour. In this work, I sought that symbiosis. The warmth of autumnal colours is applied onto the canvas with a technique that combines the ‘Impasto’ with the pointillistic interpretation of volumes and landscape.
