This is a painting done after the major earthquake in my country, Turkey. It was a direct emotional response to the destruction. In rural areas, the destruction was much less apparent as the buildings were only one or two stories instead of many more. Also they were usually better constructed. There is a saying: Earthquakes don't kill, only buildings do. The huge cracks that opened up into the earth in very rural areas did little harm. Above all, the birds fly unaffected. Proceeds from the sale of this work will go to an NGO that works with childhood trama resulting from disasters.
