Work exhibited at Saphira & Ventura Gallery in New York at the solo "Aqua" in 2022. Water is a source of great
inspiration to make unusual surrealistic and metaphysical atmospheres,
permeated with a sense of quiet and solitude, which lead to an inner introspection.
This type of subject also poses a continuous technical challenge, not only for
a realistic and convincing representation of the figures immersed in water, but also for the rendering
of the movement, transparencies, reflections, chromatic variations and
distortions of the reproduced figures The aim was
to convey
the feeling
of suspension,
of weightlessness
that is
felt immersed
in water,
which translates
into a
sense of
freedom, of separation
from the constraints we
are often
forced to suffer. The medium was chosen to make the
reflections, transparencies and its movement
of the figure and the water itself. The challenge in this work is the representation of the movement of the swimmer, represented by the overlap of 5 sequences representing the stroke, from the leaking from the water to completion with the return into the water. The aim is to represent the dynamism of the action of the swimmer and the water itself, also depicting the transparency and splashes from an aerial, flat, almost surreal perspective, in which it is complex to recognize the physical forms of the body fragmented into a myriad of reflections and spots of color.
"Terdich's painting rises to the rank of masterpiece in the context of hyperrealism contextualizing each of his works among the best creative expressions in this field. What characterizes and differentiates every work by Paolo Terdich is the ability not to limit himself to the excellent technical ability, the painter enters in every brushstroke all the tension necessary to make us go beyond the visible and to arrive in the world of emotions, a unique and extraordinary experience”.
