Slum neighborhoods are prevalent in 3rd world
and developing countries. In the U.S., our suburban neighborhoods are probably
the closest we have to these kinds of urban settings. As cities develop more
housing projects as a response to growing population, as a result, visually,
our American suburban neighborhoods are inching closer and closer to what Rio
de Janeiro's "favelas" and squatters of Tondo, Manila and other slum
neighborhoods look like. Basically, this drawing is my interpretation of what I
call the "American Slums".
