After my son was born, I started looking for objects which would reconnect me back to my childhood. One of the first things I could thought of was water kettle, which is, in Chinese culture, so important and common in daily life ( because we drink everything hot ). My own memory ties back to 1998, when my dog and I spent all the time in the kitchen with my nanny who would prepare food for the whole family. In 1999 I left home to boarding school and my nanny left our house. For this painting I used dyed table cloth as canvas, as a media that bears memories. By painting my face, sometimes my child's face, and anonymous people's faces as reflections of the kettles, I search for my place in the gap between memories and present, between childhood and motherhood.
