The absence of the formal precept in Qian Wu’s painting is interesting. It goes beyond the rigid criterion that has existed historically in virtually all cultures and in both hemispheres. From this perspective, the paintings of Qian Wu exist in a world that appears in the process of being reborn, that is, given back to culture through seizing the limitless opportunities that exist when art returns to the artist. —Robert C.
