In this piece, I was inspired by tachismic gestural strokes and contrasting warm tones of early American folk art. I applied gouache over a dried layer of brou de noix, using only a sponge and a metal pet brush. The dampness resulted in the coarse texture of the paper to balance out the strokes from the metal brush in the black gouache.
