Land
Art installation created during the Art in the Dunes 2015- Punta
Aderci, Vasto (CH)
The
Kurüf kupai installation consisted of a drawing made on the ground
with the natural elements that had been found on the spot and some
Mapuche elements / symbols previously made with natural materials
such as wood. The design, traced by both horizontal and vertical
elements (symbols), was a sort of path in constant dialogue with the
surrounding nature. A fundamental part of the installation was a
scenic action repeated successively in different contexts and always
in nature. The action consisted of singing the sacred wind song in
Mapudung (Mapuche language) and drawing the space and the elements of
the installation with body movements.
We
had the privilege of working for a project in a Mapuche community in
Patagonia at Villa Pehuenia (border with Chile) and knowing their
culture and language directly from them and from the words and tales
of the lònco (leader) of the community.
