‘Explorations on Misplaced Colour,’ is a conceptual art installation and an archival documentary on rubbish that was found in a local park. Items were found within a 50-meter radius of public green space. 1020 pieces of rubbish (“Misplaced Colour”) were found and collected by the artist over a period of 6 hours and 37 minutes over four days from this area.
Each item was photographed in its location and documented. Each day new pieces were found in the same space that was previously cleaned the day before. These findings were then separated over six painted recycled wood panels: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Absence (suited for white, black or transparent pieces). They were then glued to their associated colour.
Once ready, each panel was placed on a noticeable tree within the park. An introductory text was placed at three main entrances. The text [translated from Italian] read: “In this area, 1020 pieces of rubbish were found from this point to the playground, to the courtyard across the bridge…and continues to grow each day. They were found by one person in 6 hours and 37 minutes over four different days. Ahead of you, you will find six panels illustrating what was found. The problem starts at home. Improve your habits. Help our planet”. Alongside the text were facts of how many of each item was found and a pie chart to show its percentage in relation to one another. Top three being Cigarettes at 371 pieces found (37%), Paper items, 199 pieces (20%), and Transparent/Plastic pieces, 153 pieces (15%).
