Progetto Dolomiti (Italiano)

stoffa, terra, torba; piume

Misure: altezza 3 m, larghezza 1,5 m, profondità 0.50 m
Materiale:
stoffa, torba, terra, tronchi, foglie

Dolomiti (English)
Project by Antje Stehn
The proposal of the work "Dolomites" was born as a response to the slaughter of trees in Veneto, Trentino and Friuli about a year ago, when about 14 million plants crashed to the ground, and in a few minutes the forces of Nature were seen in action .and showed us that today the balances are compromised .Climate change is a reality: it is already causing impacts and phenomena of frequency and intensity never seen in human history causing disruption of ecosystems and loss of the richness .in biodiversity.
The proposed artistic intervention aims to be a bridge, able to connect people both with their own local and global dimension, enhancing contact with the surrounding nature and foreign communities through the active participation of citizens, promoting an eco-sustainable lifestyle. The proposed works are site-specific and community-based.
The project therefore aims to realize a common path of the artist and the citizens, in an integration of participatory and socializing art practices to directly involve citizens starting from a direct knowledge of the places and people who live there.
The project is conceived around the alpine town of San Martino di Castrozza, which owes its origin to an ancient religious institution, the Hospice of Saints Martino and Giuliano and at 1,450 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Pale di San Martino.
The artist proposes the interaction through a series of artistic and social works and activities that alternate shaping an artistic intervention that interacts with the alpine environment and is inspired by the historic mountains and creating a path of territorial enhancement in the urban context and at the same time on the paths of the mountain forest . The works are made with local materials and with trees that are still on the ground.
The artist's works will be the integral part of an emotional mapping that aims to explore the relationship between the inhabitants of a neighborhood and their territory, and the collective perception in order to sensitize the inhabited areas closely linked to tree slaughter and climate change issues.
Works:
The proposed temporary site-specific works can be modified according to the material available on the site and according to the place of their placement. The materials used are biocompatible.
Feather Dress, 2017
Measurements: height 3 m, width 2m, depth 1.50m
Material: fabric, earth, peat; feathers
(The material is interchangeable according to what is on site, e.g. pine needles, leaves, flowers, berries, etc.)
Feather Dress: Clothes are a recurring theme in my work, I have made different ones: the Thorns Jacket, the Digitalis Dress, the Salt Dress, the Seed Shirt, the Earth Cloak and now the Dress of feathers and spine shoes.
The Pueblo Indians say that the white man is crazy because he claims that thoughts are born in the head: according to them, instead, they are born in the body, precisely in the parts hidden by the clothes.
In fact, when one thinks of the perception of the outside world, one thinks of the eyes, the ears, the mouth, the hands and for everyone it is a nightmare to imagine oneself blind or deaf. Of the skin, on the other hand, little is thought of, despite the fact that it assures is the communication between body with the external: covering an area of two square meters! Skin also puts us in touch with the environment and with others. What would it be like if nothing was felt, neither temperatures, nor pressure, nor caresses? It's nice to think about the different kind of skins: scales, feathers, fur, the bark of the trees, thorns.
Cloak of Earth and Bark, 2017
Measurements: height 3m, width 1.5m, depth 0.50m
Material: fabric, peat, earth, trunks, leaves
(The material is interchangeable according to what is on site, e.g. pine needles, leaves, flowers, berries, etc.)
Mantle of Earth and bark: "The earth is always under your feet and, when it’s on top of you it means, life is over. Apparently not. A cloak of earth and bark is still strange - so I thought, as I looked at it for the first time - but perhaps it is the best way to become familiar with the ground and begin to walk the road. Yes, the coat of earth and trees is the best garment for a good traveler, of those that seem a perfect camouflage for the incognito deities. If you like the romantic Wanderer, feeling one with the landscape in which you immerse yourself, challenging fate and the unknown, a cloak of earth is the best you can wish for. " Roberto Rossi
Dolomites, 2019 (English)
Measurements: height 3m, width 1.5m, depth 0.50m
Material: material, peat, earth, trunks, leaves
(The material is interchangeable according to what is on site, e.g. pine needles, leaves, flowers, berries, etc.)
Our life revolves around trees, which are fundamental for everyone's survival. We are all born in a forest. The trees do not only recall vague memories of our previous lives when we were still jumping from one branch to another, but they also bind us to our roots and traditions, which are instruments of knowledge that man has at his disposal to create a bridge between the past, present and future, between place of origin and place of landing.
The tree is also a metaphor for the human being himself. The roots resemble the feet, which draw nourishment from this world, the trunk corresponds to the body and the crown, finally, to the head with fruits and seeds which regenerate the plant. The metaphor of hope lies in this potential.
Activities
The activities aim to create a dialogue and relate art, culture, and history, to the territorial testimonies and the different local cultures present in these places. Its realization takes into account even areas such as the Colbricon lake on the Piani della Cavallazza and evening excursions up to the Malga Ces
