Arte Laguna Prize’s finalist artwork, “Whispering Forest”

Whispering Forest is a mesmerizing, site-specific installation that transforms lifeless, reclaimed trees from around the globe into an evocative symphony of resilience and renewal. These trees, once silent witnesses to their own ecological journeys, now murmur soft whispers—heard only as visitors lean in close—inviting a moment of profound connection with the natural world.

Woven through their trunks are delicate wires, mimicking the intricate networks of mycelium that underpin life itself; these hidden threads symbolize the unseen, vital systems that sustain our existence, drawing parallels between nature’s interconnectedness and humanity’s collective responsibility.

The arrangement of the tree trunks, draws inspiration from the Orion constellation as it appears during the Winter Solstice. This celestial alignment, celebrated across cultures as a time of rebirth and renewal, mirrors the themes of the installation. On the longest night of the year, when darkness reigns yet light begins its slow return, Whispering Forest becomes a reminder of nature’s cycles and the enduring promise of regeneration.

Through this fusion of organic materials and subtle technological interventions, Whispering Forest bridges the divide between humanity and the environment. It invites viewers to pause, reflect, and consider the delicate balance between technology and nature, underscoring the scars we leave upon the Earth and the urgent need for conservation.

As both a call to action and a meditative experience, the installation resonates deeply with the broader narrative of ecological healing, urging us to listen—not just to the whispers of the forest, but to the collective voice of a planet in need of care.

The sculpture will be exhibited in Arte Laguna Prize‘s spaces until December 8th, 2024, as it was selected to be one of the 240 finalist artworks in the spaces of Arsenale Nord of Venice.
