Come from a coastal town, I see water as a main feature in my inner landscape, as an essential part of my memory for I "sailed" away from my native place nearly 25 years ago. In my series "Waves", I worked with found existing models, old photographs of Chinese junks that were taken in Shanghai on the Huangpu River , or the Suzhou Creek. I looked for hidden symbols into the old photographies for providing a new key to unlock a new meaning. Through a procedure of re-contextualization the I manipulate time, beckon to the past, “appropriate forms and characters”, assign them new meanings. Modificated and printed on silk then mounted on paper like traditional Chinese scrolls, intentional wrinkling in the mounting creates a series of waves. This minimal act of poetry is enough to bring motion to the picture, to put new life into it, as if a breath of life, able to connect past and present supporting the artwork.
