This series is dedicated to Water.
Using water as a metaphor, I created this series to represent a flowing meditation of harmony, an energy that is peaceful, calm, yet powerful, loving, uplifting and inspiring.
In ancient Chinese culture, water represents the feminine energy, the Yin energy, which is gentle, soft, peaceful, yielding, yet resilient, nurturing and sustaining life wherever it goes.
Lao Zi, an ancient philosopher about 2500 years ago, in his book Tao De Ching, used water to represent the highest virtue of life, the Tao.
“Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. Yet water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is a paradox: what is soft is strong.”
“Eminent goodness is like water. The excellence of water appears in its benefiting all things, yet it actively completes, without striving. It retires to undesirable places. Thus it is near to Tao.”
Everything in the universe is made of energy, Yin and Yang. The balance between the two is a continuous dynamic flow. The highest state of harmony of the Yin and Yang is embodied by water.
Ultimately, water represents life. Living a meaningful life itself is an art, a creative process. Out of the peaceful Yin energy, there is Yang movement; out of meditation, there is action; out of stillness, there is creation of life. Our life is a dynamic flow, continuous movement, continuous transformation.
This series also reflects my ongoing meditation to cultivate inner peace and serenity. In our busy modern world, immediate achievements seem so important and urgent, yet cultivation of inner strength and virtues is not sufficiently considered. Instead of forcing and living in a stressful "doing" mode, we could turn inward, cultivate self knowledge, so that our actions come from a deep sense of being,
of peace, serenity and truth.
This series is my expression of searching for harmony in life, a desire toward a balance, the harmony between Yin and Yang.
