"Translucent Shield" is about the sense of self that serves against stimulation and protects us from getting into possibly dangerous or confusing areas that we would prefer not to approach. We paint it shiny to show the best of ourselves, while its translucence allows the outside world only controlled glimpses of our true selves. Sometimes I layer images without a plan and let the work guide me. I add layer after layer while building visual rhythm and let the evolving image lead me to something recognizable. An underlying image is able to achieve an unpredictable complexity of color and texture by adding visual information from a second layer. I try to utilize randomness to transcend the limits of logic and create image layering combinations that are unexpected and visually exciting. The digital outcome is printed with pigment based inks on heavy, acid-free watercolor paper, enhanced with soft pastels, mounted on cradled wooden panel (4 cm deep), fixed and varnished.
