Elegy for an Elephant is a picture book of three children seeking their father’s soul. It honors ways we can connect to loved ones we have lost, and the timeless nature of love. This is an artwork from one of it’s pages.
Souls bloom forth from petals, as candles flicker in the wind.
This artwork celebrates the shared ecology of life forces in our universe, and the mantras of healing that blossoms over time.
“I will heal,” Wonder said,
as together they planted flowers.
“I will fly again,” Grace said as they lit candles.
“I will grow,” said Hope as they sang prayers.
“And I will find strength,” their mother said, as they watched the flowers bloom.
The artwork in this book was created with watercolours, pencils, sea salt and seawater sourced from Aireys Inlet, Cape Town, Melbourne and Sydney. The artwork was hand painted, professionally scanned and digitally harmonised on Photoshop.
This is a limited one of one edition: specially printed for the Arte Laguna Prize in large format.
