To be part of the cosmos means: to be part of an order. A complex system, a collection of data impossible to grasp with the mind. It is within it that our consciousness is formed, it is what sets the boundaries of our seemingly unfettered fantasy. In trying to invent new worlds, we create variants of the one we live in - our imagination turns to familiar forms and patterns. The starting point for abstract or futuristic visions is almost always the familiar. The potential for creation ex nihilo belongs to the realm of chaos, which is inaccessible to us. Faced with the inability to go beyond the framework of the system, we resort to various gestures that allow us to move (but never to exceed) the boundaries of our cognition – or we merely delight in the infinity of variations available to us within it.
Still, we create, resisting passivity. Sometimes we find ourselves creating something particularly intimate, born of a strong need, thought or emotion, close to our bodies or close to our fears. The question then becomes particularly heavy: how much of the world is in it, and how much of ourselves? And: Doesn't it all add up to the same thing?
