Dye Sublimation, 80 X 120 cm (32 X 48 inches), 2019.
The Me Too movement against
sexual harassment and sexual assault, is virally spreading in the world since
2017. Its main objective is to empower women through empathy and strength in
numbers, especially young and vulnerable women, by visibly demonstrating how
many women have survived sexual assault and harassment.
Miss Universe is a legendary
annual international beauty pageant, bringing together beauty queens the world
over. The idea behind the present artwork - ‘Miss Universe’ - is to humbly
support the Me Too movement by further empowering women and by expressing a
different interpretation of the Miss Universe notion, using a visual form of
the ‘down-to-earth’ expression.
The stiletto heel shoe is an
object that on the one hand is easily identified with women, and on the other
is in close contact with the earth on which we stand. Therefore, it has been
chosen to represent the feminine power in this artwork. It is modeled and
placed in the image in such a way that it is larger than the Earth and located
above it. More than that, the stiletto heel shoe is the only object in the
artwork which is in full focus, simply to represent and accentuate the message that
time has come for women to rise and stand out in the center, whereas the rest of
the world remains blurred and out of focus. A correction is made and women are
recognized for their true value and power.
