Hope is a belief that a bad
situation may improve and be resolved in the future. When we yearn for hope we
are usually in a state of despair, which is the opposite of hope. In such a
situation it is hard to believe that a good thing will happen, but when
something happens that makes it possible to believe that the situation will
improve, we say that it is a glimmer of hope, a spark of hope or as I like to
call it - lueur d’espoir.
In the Hebrew language, a ‘glimmer
of hope’ may also be replaced by a ‘spark of hope’, which means a very small
amount of hope. When there is a tiny bit of hope it is like a small sparkle
which may ignite and become a great light. Still with the Hebrew language, the
root of the word hope has also another, completely different meaning - a
water reservoir. In order to emphasize the theme of hope in this work, I
decided to combine the two meanings - a glimmer of hope together with water
puddles. The bits of colorful light which are reflected off the murky puddles
on the gloomy, dark and patched road, signify the coming of the long-awaited
great light.
This artwork is another direct
result of the horrendous Coronavirus pandemic, further reflecting my hope for
an imminent wipeout of the plague and the return of light to our lives.
