My work explores the relationship between the hidden value of meaning in relationships vs what is shown on the surface of them. With influences by artists such as John Stezaker and Kensuke Koike, I have synthesized pieces of my own interpretation through digital collage. In my experiments as an artist, I have often found that images and photographs that are often presented to us hold more meaning than is physically shown and it is only through deconstructing then regenerating the image is it possible to appreciate the hidden details, the overlooked features and omitted messages of which the initial image could not provide us.
By reconstructing a new image through collage, my work aims to reflect the hidden complexities and feelings of relationships that are not accessible to understand or view on the surface level. It allows for feeling to be emphasized in the work by focusing on particular features or reiterating a detail that reinforces the tone of what is represented.
