"The
Letter" is part of the series of
illustrations "The sweet life of an Italian monster"
dedicated to Giacomo Casanova, one of the most famous seducers of
history, and to his love adventures in the Venice of 1700.
"Why
do you leave me, my Lady, with your obstinacy so cruel to me? ...".
The noblewoman sitting on the sofa shares her joy of the letter just
received from Casanova, urging a pinch of jealousy and envy in her
friend. Two ladies wear refined clothes and precious jewels, their
hairdo are decorated with flowers, pearls, satin ribbons and
feathers. The scene takes place in an elegant living room. At the
feet of the woman a bored feline slumbers on a soft pillow.
