“Giardino Notturno”
is part of the series of illustrations "The
sweet life of one Italian monster"
dedicated to Giacomo Casanova, one of the most famous seducers of all
times, and to his love adventures in the Venice of 1700.
This
illustration represents a secret meeting between Casanova and woman
in love in an autumn night garden, hidden among the vines and rose
bushes. Only the light of the full moon in the background illuminates
the moment of their meeting. Casanova, before giving the kiss to his
beloved, throws the mask at his feet. High up among the grape leaves
we see a small cupid who is about to hurl the arrow of love ... at
least for tonight. The letter G at the base of the illustration,
designed in the shape of a ribbon, signifies both the words Garden
and Giacomo.
