Futuro do Pretérito ( Future of the Past, in straight translation) is a verb tense in Portuguese and it is used to express something that did not happened in the past but it could be a possible future. It also conveys uncertainty, surprise and indignation.
It names well and conduct my idea of manipulate old photos of my own family from the 80s and 90s and insert gadgets and tech devices in them that only came in the 2000s/2010s and this poor Brazilian family couldn't even dream to afford if it happened back then. These surreal pictures deliberately fantasize and invite the viewers to search for the “error†in them.Would that past be possible? Could that family have those things there? What about now? It questions the technology progress and the its access for the people around the world.
This work consists in 18 old manipulated photographs in two lines of 09, each one in the 13x18cm format and followed with a legend that contains these information: the year that the gadget was launched and how much does it cost in US dollars. Between the two lines of photos, two little texts in each corners of the lines will bring these two information: first the average monthly income of the family back then in US dollars and the last how much the same family does now in 2019 in US dollars.
